I discovered the power of quotes in 1981, when someone at work sold March of Dimes coupon books that had coupons on one side of a page, and a beautiful picture with a pithy quote on the other side. I NEVER used the coupons. I devoured the quotes. They were SO instrumental in shifting my way of showing up in the world. And it seems I’m not alone!
"A quotation at the right moment is like bread in a famine." ~Yiddish Proverb
"I love quotes because good quotes are vitamins for the brain!" ~Patrick Driessen
"I love quotations because it is a joy to find thoughts one might have, beautifully expressed with much authority by someone recognizably wiser than oneself." ~ Marlene Dietrich
As I developed my public speaking skills, I found quotes to be one of the most effective ways to open or close a talk, or to emphasize a point. On my public speaking site there is a post with quotations about quotes. Here is one of them:
"A beautiful verse, an apt remark, or a well-turned phrase, appropriately quoted, is always effective and charming." ~Marie Anne de Vichy-Chamrond du Deffand
At Neatees we are working hard to recreate the many quote tees we designed prior to our supplier quitting on us. Keep an eye on the quote tee collections. If YOU have a favorite quote you’d love to see on a tee, let us know and we’ll design it for you.
For me, quotes go way beyond improving my talks or designing great tees. They enhanced, and I’d go so far as to say, saved my life.
